Dear Commissioners:

 

I am writing to express my concern about the impact of the proposed zoning regulations on D&D Tire.

 

My business is located in the C-3 district under the current ordinance, and is a permitted use in that district.  The proposed regulations will change D&D Tire from a permitted use to a use that requires a special use permit.

 

I understand that, in the event the business is destroyed more than 50% by fire, or natural catastrophe, I will not be able to rebuild unless I apply for and receive a special use permit from the City of Lawrence.  I understand that the permit process will cost thousands, will take at least 90 days, and there is no guarantee that permit will be issued.  Moreover, even an addition or major remodeling could put me in the same position.

 

It is likely that my only choice would be to abandon my current location and either relocate or close the business.

 

We have operated in downtown Lawrence for decades and have served downtown professionals, workers and businesses.  We provide a valuable and convenient service, and believe we contribute positively to the unique character of the Lawrence Central Business District.

 

I respectfully request that the Commission refrain from adopting regulations that will endanger my business and my livelihood.
