Wakarusa Corridor Study

Date:

At a
meeting on November 2,
2004 attended by
Chuck Soules, David Woosley, Bill Ahrens, Mike Wildgen, Debbie Van Saun, and Dave Corliss, it was recommended that the requested
study of the Wakarusa corridor between 6th St. and Clinton
Parkway be performed
in-house. It was also decided that I will be the lead person in developing the
study. Staff explained what can and can’t be done in-house as opposed to using
consultant services. The study will involve the following tasks:
- Obtain current
peak hour traffic counts, including turning movements, at all
intersections and major driveways
- Perform
operational analysis of current intersection conditions using Highway
Capacity Software (HCS) and identify deficiencies.
- Review
and revise as needed future land use projections and population and
employment forecasts.
- Review
and revise as needed future roadway assumptions, including roadway
connections, signalized intersections, and assumptions on capacity
increases.
- Perform
travel demand modeling, including proposed future roadway connections, to
obtain 2025 projected traffic volumes.
- Use
current turning movements to factor projected traffic volumes to obtain
future turning movement estimates.
- Perform
operational analysis of future intersection conditions using Highway Capacity
Software (HCS) and identify potential deficiencies.
Disclaimers:
- The
corridor study will not provide a comparative evaluation of the operation
or feasibility of roundabouts versus signalized intersections.
- The
corridor study will not involve the use of simulation software, such as
CORSIM or SYNCHRO to model corridor or multiple intersection analysis.
- The
corridor study will not provide design concepts for identified
deficiencies or improvements.
