RE: APPLICATIONS FOR TRANSPORATION ENHANCEMENT FUNDS, FFY 2006 & 2007
Dear Mr. Ahlenius:
The City of Lawrence is pleased to endorse the application submitted for the FFY 2006 & 2007 Transportation Enhancement Program. It is our understanding that the application is being submitted through the Lawrence/Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). This year the MPO will submit an application in the Pedestrian and Bicycle category for construction of a multi-use bicycle/pedestrian path along the 1.2 mile section on the south side of Bob Billings Pkwy between Kasold Drive and Engel Road. We also understand that projects that are approved will require at minimum a 20% local funding match.
We believe that the proposed Bob Billings Pkwy project will have immediate as well as long lasting benefits to Lawrence’s transportation system. We recognize the vital role that this transportation enhancement project will play in our community. This project will expand and improve the existing bicycle and pedestrian network by providing an essential link in the bicycle facilities network.
