Please place the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at their August 10, 2004 meeting:

 

Airport Improvement Project

Project Status.  Construction bids were opened on July 20th for Schedules I, II, and III for the Runway 1-19 Reconstruction Project.  On August 3rd, the City Commission approved the low bid from ESS, Inc. pending FAA grant approval.  .

 

A breakdown of the total project costs used in calculating the FAA grant application is as follows:

 

          Administrative costs                             $5,000

          Design phase services                         $72,300

          Bidding phase services                           8,600

          Construction phase services                  99,890

          Subtotal engineering services              180,790

 

 

          Construction Schedule I                      782,111

          Construction Schedule II                      83,085

          Construction Schedule III                   116,705

          Subtotal construction                          981,901

 

          TOTAL PROJECT COST            $1,167,691

 

Project Funding.  A grant application was submitted to FAA on July 27, 2004 requesting FAA participation for the project at $1,109,306 (95%) with City participation at $58,385 (5%).  Today we received a grant offer from FAA for the full amount requested.  Per the terms of the FAA grant offer, it must be accepted on or before August 13, 2004.

 

Commission Action.   Staff recommends acceptance of the FAA grant offer.  Therefore, we seek City Commission approval to authorize the City Manager to execute the grant agreement for the amounts noted above.
