Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:      In 2004, the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee is celebrating its seventeenth year as an organization in Lawrence; and

 

WHEREAS:      The parade committee encompasses four basic themes:

 

First, to honor Irish Americans and their contributions to America;

 

Second, to celebrate the legend and spirit of St. Patrick through a fun, good old-fashioned parade;

 

Third, to promote an atmosphere of benevolence, friendship, and cooperation through the parade and other associated events; and

 

Fourth, to support and exemplify the idea that charity and goodwill begins at home, benefiting your friends, neighbors, and the Lawrence community; and

 

WHEREAS:      This years’ parade will be dedicated to the men and women of the military; and

 

WHEREAS:      The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is self-supporting, and depends solely on the resources of interested businesses and citizens who donate their time, talents, and good humor to sponsor worthwhile charitable causes on a yearly basis;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, David M. Dunfield, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, March 17, 2004, for the day of the City of Lawrence’s

 

“SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL SAINT PATRICK’S DAY PARADE”

 

The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee once again presents to the City of Lawrence the dart tourney on February 28th, pub quiz on Sunday February 29th, the auction held on March 6th, the fifteenth annual “Shamrock Shuffle” 5 K Run and the first Bikers/Poker Run on Saturday, March 13th, Queen Coronation on March 14th, and The Parade on Wednesday, March 17th at 1:00 p.m. for proper recognition and congratulate all interested citizens of Lawrence and surrounding communities for participating in this event.
