Re: request for use of city shield on coin and promotion of the sesquicentennial celebration
The Heritage Committee of the Sesquicentennial Committee is requesting use of a modification of the city shield. The modified graphic would be used on a commemorative coin and in the advertising of the coin and in the advertising and printed materials for the sesquicentennial celebration. The modification removes the chartered date and the 1863 date and removes the motto “from ashes to immortality” from the city shield. (See attachment).
From a communications perspective, I suggest that the Commission examine each request to use the seal or shield that involves a modification. This examination will allow the Commission to consider the request and the potential for the modification to dilute or detract from the city’s currently recognized graphics, the city seal, shield and web icon.
